Inferior Infrastructure Components (IIC) assessment

A list of IIC objects, including:

  • Jumpers
  • Trunk cables
  • Connectors
  • Couplers

…may introduce excessive dB loss in channel paths, resulting in an intermittent Loss-of-Light (LoL) condition, producing a loss of synchronization between an optical transmitter and receiver.

When this condition occurs, channels will attempt resynchronizations. Continued resyncing cycles will cause the transmitter and receiver to down shift to slower speeds.

There is often no indication that the expensive high speed interfaces are not running at full potential.

An IIC assessment is a non intrusive method to collect:

  • Processor interface data
  • Director interface data
  • Unit interface data
  • A connectivity map to ensure the system is operating at full potential
